Theatrical Phenomenon from London and Athens Comes to Cyprus for the First Time
The play 2:22 – A Ghost Story, directed by Fanis Mouratidis

This is the play everyone was talking about in London three years ago, hailed as a “theatrical phenomenon.”

In Greece, it premiered at the ALAMPRA Theatre and later in Thessaloniki during the 2024-2025 theatrical season, directed by Fanis Mouratidis.

ALPHA BANK presents 2:22 – A Ghost Story by Danny Robins in Cyprus for the first time — a contemporary supernatural thriller that has received rave reviews in London’s West End, earned nominations for three Laurence Olivier Awards, and won the “Best New Play” award at the WhatsOnStage Awards in 2022.

2:22 – A Ghost Story was the major theatrical gamble that Fanis Mouratidis took following the huge success of Christoforos Papakaliatis’ series MAESTRO in Greece and abroad, in which he stars.

On stage alongside him are popular actors Natalia Dragoumi, Faye Xyla, and Stathis Matzoros. Giorgos Zafeiropoulos plays the role of the policeman.

This thriller, combining intrigue, humor, and terror, written by Danny Robins, creator of the famous BBC podcast The Battersea Poltergeist, takes the audience through a night of suspense, where secrets are revealed and the supernatural makes its presence known, pushing the characters to confront their inner conflicts and seek the truth about themselves and others.

Comedic and terrifying moments intertwine as we follow a story from next door that could happen to any of us. As we all wonder whether there is life after death, the play asks: “What do you really believe? And are you brave enough to discover the truth?”

In the story, Jen is convinced her new home is haunted, while her husband Sam remains skeptical. During dinner with old friends, Lorraine and her new partner Ben, tensions rise as they discuss the existence of ghosts. As the evening unfolds, a disturbing presence draws nearer, forcing the group to stay awake until 2:22 a.m. to discover what lies beyond the obvious…

The play begins with an air of mystery and ambiguity, where truth is elusive and hidden. As the story progresses, the characters embark on a journey of self-discovery, uncovering unknown aspects of themselves and secrets we may all harbor. In a night full of humor and adrenaline, nothing is as it seems… or is it?

The author asks whether ghosts could exist in today’s world of Facebook, Spotify, and Amazon Alexa. We can now control everything through small high-tech devices, yet we grow lonelier and more vulnerable. In a time of COVID, climate change, and new wars, we are reminded of our mortality and ponder whether there is something beyond what we can see and understand.

About the author:
Danny Robins, born September 1976, lives in Walthamstow, London. He is an award-winning British author, stand-up comedian, broadcaster, and journalist.

His interest in the supernatural led him to create numerous radio series and podcasts, including The Battersea Poltergeist, a BBC podcast blending drama and documentary to tell a true ghost story. The podcast became a global phenomenon — the #1 Drama Podcast worldwide, with over 4 million downloads, winning the Gold Award for Best Serial Podcast at the New York Radio Festival Awards.

He has created shows for television and radio, including the successful Young Dracula (BBC1, BAFTA-nominated), Rudy’s Rare Records, and The Cold Swedish Winter for BBC Radio 4.

His play 2:22 – A Ghost Story, starring Lily Allen, premiered in London’s West End in August 2021 and was described as the theatrical event of the year.
